The Meaning of Life
Written by Marcelo Martinez
The year is 1967, a bulldog is lying half way out of his kennel sleeping, when a ginger tabby cat jumps from the roof, lands on the fence, then jumps from the fence onto the bulldogs head. The dog wakes up.
Dog
Oh, So you think you can jump on my head and get away with it?
Cat
Yep, cos I know something you dont. And if you want to find out what is, you better not try to hurt me.
The dog sits up straight, looking intrigued.
Dog
Alright then cat, you win. Tell me what you know.
Cat
Mr. Bulldog, I, a simple household cat, know the meaning of life.
Dog
Really? Go on then tell me!
Cat
Tsk Tsk, You dont think im going to tell you something as big as the meaning of life without something in return.
Dog
O.K what do you want?
Cat
I want you to tell me cats are superior to dogs.
Dog
No way!
Cat
Fine, I guess you’ll never know, this juicy piece of info.
Dog
Wait wait!
The dog hesitates a moment.
Dog
* whispers * Cats are superior to dogs.
Cat
I’m sorry I didnt catch that.
Dog
CATS ARE SUPERIOR TO DOGS.
The cat laughs hysterically
Dog
Go on then, tell me! Whats the meaning of life?
Cat
I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
The dog eyes light up
Dog
Yes, cat.
Cat
Are you listening?
The dogs ears prick up, and his tail starts wagging uncontrollably
Dog
Yes, I am.
There is a moment of silence as the suspense builds
Cat
Plastics.
The dogs tail drops between his legs
